Consider the Lobster

I would consider this article to be a group of what seems to be essays. He breaks it down into different topics within the same subject line of lobsters. I honestly don’t what the genre is for this because it jumps around so much and it was hard to research. In addition, I feel like I am jumping around to the footnotes confuses me. I don’t know if it’s because it is a new form of writing that it irks me, but I now in terms of my paper I would prefer a normal personal essay. While I do understand the footnotes are a tool to extend beyond the essay, I don’t feel it makes the paper more cohesive. I see that he touches briefly on the topic within the essay he is writing, but if he feels like he should extend it he puts a number beside it and gives you another location. For example, he states that not everyone will able to handle Harbor Isles, and then further explains that there is a huge variety in the working class, the people who work tourist business, and the rich.

The author does shift topics a lot. In one point of the essay, the author discussed a festival surrounding the eating of lobsters while another portion was talking about history and how this used to not be a food the rich got. In the footnotes, they went off into another tangent on diversity within Maine. In my mind, the title is asking us to look beyond our understanding of lobster as a high-class meal and really indulge in what this animal’s history entails. In addition, to sharing some fundamental ideas that he believes in.
