The demand for going abroad has been increasing as educators promise college students a way to find themselves and distinguish themselves on their resumes once they graduate and move on to their careers. In addition, you learn to be fluent another language, learn another culture, and see a part of the world you haven’t seen before. However, very few people go and research how exactly the student changes and how it prepares you for your future job. They blindly accept that this is something that makes you a better student from the people earning money from them going abroad. I want to go to Spain during my summer between junior and senior year, but I want to see if the study is worth it. In this research essay, I look at how going abroad improves student’s ability to be a student at FSU and how it helps start their future career. I sat down with Megan OMeara, an FSU student that did the first year abroad in Panama and asked her questions surrounding her growth as an individual.
